French National Championships
Event 2 of the international A Class
Catamaran Calendar has just been wrapped up. The French open championship was
held from the 17th – 20th May in La Rochelle on the
French West Coast.
Last year at this event I achieved a 4th
place, which was the first event I sailed in for my new team,
Catamaranparts.nl. This year I managed to get the victory, testament to the
development that has been put in over the last year on the boat.
I managed to sail a very clean regatta
achieving only 1 result (7th) out of the top 3 with 3 race wins. In
the 9 race series I managed to claim the overall title after the 8th
race showing that consistency in a series pays off.
The competition was tight at the top with
Jack Benson (AUS), Arno Terra (NED) and Micky Todd (ESP) proving to be the
major competition at this event with good showing from the French team also.
Each race was hotly contested with close finishes in the majority of races.
The racing area saw a variety of conditions
from 4 to 18 knots and large waves with no real pattern. All of the new generation boats are of the
same pace however, over 15-16 knots I believe I have an advantage using the
Vision. Over the winter the focus has been to make the boat fast for the
European championships where higher wind speeds are expected and I believe,
along with Catamaranparts.nl and Hammer Sails, I have achieved this without
sacrificing overall performance.
I guess we will see if this is true at the
European championships in 1 month!
Once again thank you to all of those who
have supported me in winning back the French title but particularly
Catamaranparts.nl, The Marine Travel Company and Hammer Sails.
All the best,
Chris
