The 2 Visions where sailed by Piet Saarberg, Nigel Lovett and the Raptor F16 was sailed by Chris Field. For Chris this was his first time ever on a F16 and was looking forward to see how the boat will do.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"&gt;The briefing was at 10 AM and there was already a possiblity to shorten the race because of the wind conditions and they were right, the race was shorted just before the island Tiengemeten with a gate and this was a good choice.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"&gt;At 11 AM the start signal was given and off we go with a 70+ boat field. Right after the start it was the best choice to go North and then crossing the lake to the South and stay under the dike. Chris had a good start and was with the Raptor in the middle of the F20's going upwind to the island. Piet on the Vision went earlier to the South under the dike and in the beginning this was not ideal but he managed to sail free and off he went with a big battle with John Moret on his special made M20. &lt;br /&gt;It was a complete up wind beat and a lot of the A-cats and the Raptor were in front of the fleet. At the gate it was Piet in 3th and Chris in 6th place, this was ofcourse very good with a downwind leg to come. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"&gt;It all went different and more difficult because the wind was dropping further and a lot of wind holes were spread out around the lake.Piet was in the lead and went to the North side close to the finish and this did cost him the victory, the boats on the North side had a little sooner the upcomning Westerly wind and could go full trapeze to the finish and Piet did miss the victory by half a boat length.&lt;br /&gt;Chris was also struggling to get out of the windholes and instead of a downwind beat with the spinaker it was changed into an upwind beat again. Finally Chris did made a 11 th place overall with the Raptor and Piet a 3 th place overall with the Vision.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"&gt;Overall we can say that you needed some luck today to get a real top finish. It was a challenging day with some material issues, 1 mast broken and some boards. The story told that during race 1 the wind shifted a lot and that it increased above 20 knots for some time. After the rain/storm cloud the weather improved.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"&gt;The first started race was stopped because of the weather but the 2 races started after that were sailed in moderate and lighter wind condition.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; There was no negative comment from anybody on this and everybody was enjoying the atmosphere.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;We arrived with 2 Raptors F16 on Saturday night and did a quick diner after a 10 hour long drive and went to bed straight away. The next morning we were up early to go to the CVB and to assemble the boats. We did found out that most competitors were already arrived and the field of 33 boats was a very good achievement. During assembling the others came into the boat yard and did prepare them self to go for a nice sail despite the showers of rain we had. For Stephane ,who sailed 1 Raptor in 2 up mode, it was the first time ever on the F16 and he went out early to have a test run and to see if anything needs to be modified. He had found no problems and was happy to have a boat ready to race from the box. On Monday he was not racing because he was part of the organization and this could not combined with racing. Hans was going single handed for the first time this year on the Raptor F16, the A class project took to much time to have any practice possible, and went on the water also early to check the newly build Raptor Mark II and to see if everything was working properly. From the beginning on you could see which people who were going for the championship, Darren Bundock ( goes fast even on a wooden pallet ) Jason Waterhouse, Carolijn Brouwer and Taylor Reiss. The races scheduled for the day should be started at 13.00 but because the wind was very shifty there was some delay in the procedure so it actually started around 14.00 , which was also giving the wind to build up and the one up’s had no change at all to beat the sloop rigged boats. Greg Goodall was swapped for this day to cat rigged because of illness of his crew. The request for doing this was send in to the jury and nobody was complaining one this further. Good to see that sailing and having fun goes above the competition in this. Stephane on the Raptor mark I was also going out and did good racing with a 25,19,20 result with no practice at all and on a new boat. He was really surprised on how the boat performed and how easy it sailed downwind. Hans was getting in the mood and had a good day with a 13,10,23 and did beat Greg twice this day with a good battle with Greg.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;Jason Waterhouse was best this day with a 1,2,1 and followed by Darren with a 2,1,2.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;Wednesday 27 July&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;Finally the weather was the way it should be, sunny and 27 degrees Celsius, and the wind was probably going to do what it normal does. Easy in the morning and building up during the day as a thermic wind into the 20’s. This would not exactly happing because the land was to could after the bad days but it was building up later that day to around 16 knots. Darren did show how to sail correctly and did not make any mistake with 3 bullets , it was his day. Stephane was increasing his results and was making a lot of improvement on the boat and was getting used to it. He did a 21,18,18 and was in race 2 close to the first 10 but made a tactic error what cost several places but overall he was really having fun. Hans in the morning was doing well because the wind was not to strong so the advantage of the sloop rigged boats was not to big yet and finished 13&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; , the wind started to build in race 2 and the sloops were absolute to fast, this was a 23 and 24 in race 2 and 3 for that day. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;Thursday 28 July&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;The sun was shining and the temperature was around 27 C again so it was perfect and the thermic breeze would for sure come in today, and it came in. The first 2 races was sailed in perfect condition from 12 to 16 knots but during the 3th race the wind switched on and it started to blow constant 19 to 20 and gusts into the 20’s . This is for the 1 up’s a challenging adventure with the spin and a few were having troubles, the sloops were really flying fast. Darren also took this day with constant high level sailing . A 2,1,2 was the result and Carolijn also did well with 2 bullets. You could really see that these 2 were the best today in boat handling&lt;span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;and tactics. Stephane did it well with a 19,28,27. He told me that his wife never sailed in these strong wind condition before and was pleased to manage this quite easy but she was for here feeling on the edge what she normally does but the boat handled all gusts very well and this made here to go on. The last signal should be not later than 15.00 and around 14.15 it went on . Darren was already crowned as champion and actually he did not needed to sail this last race. The wind started to build and we did a good last race of the event. Stephane was not on the water because of organization issues again and Hans was just defending his position to end as first single hander. We had 38 competitors on the list but around the half of them where not going out because of the conditions ( constant 18 and gusts far into the 20's ). There where 3 days scheduled and the RC did manage to make 2 races with an increasing wind so the last race was cancelled.&lt;br /&gt;After the first day there was Chris Field and Sjoerd Hoekstra in the lead on equal points with PJ Dwarshuis 3 rd.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"&gt;Day 1 results&lt;br /&gt;1. The wind was increasing during race 2 and on race 3 it was again survival mode on the downwind. The top of the fleet was going fast again and Chris and Sjoerd where actually fighting for the title with smart sailing of Chris he did manage to win race 1 of the day and Sjoerd 3th and Matthias Dietz 2nd.&lt;br /&gt;The 2nd race was also with around 10 knots of wind but decreasing and with that a lot of shifts and wind holes where there what made it difficult. Theo van Hilten did a fantastic starboard start and finished the race in 2nd place behind Sjoerd and in front of Chris ( all of them on a Vision , happy us ).&lt;br /&gt;The wind was dying further and with light conditions race 3 was sailed with again a lot of wind shifts and Roeland was making the best of it with a bullet and Nigel Lovett 2nd and Chris 3rd. Sjoerd had a BFD what forced him to sail the last race in a building wind to 10-12 knots. mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;Last Easter weekend the 37&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; Vele di Pasqua was sailed at the sea in front of Cesenatico with light wind conditions and some days with a choppy sea. After last year debut of the Dutch build DNA it was this year the turn of the other Dutch build A-class VISION at this major A-class event.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;The first comments were coming in by some phone contact with the sailors there and the first signals on how the boat is performing is absolutely amazing. We do know that we made a design looking different then other models around at the moment and we had a Vision on how to do things. In the last weekend we and the other sailors have found out that it was not bad at all.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;Sjoerd Hoekstra and Piet Saarberg where sailing the first 2 boats. (Sjoerd was sailing on the prototype).&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;We have not received the full story yet but what we know so far is that Sjoerd did a very good job but was unlucky in race 2 and race 6. In race 2 he did broke the rope connection between the main and the sail so had to return to the beach to fix this and this means that this race was his redraw for the series. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;In the last race he was unlucky at the start to hit the pin end mark and needed to make a 360 penalty turn. Going over the starting line in 75&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; position he needed to catch up with the rest to make a good result of this race. From the story told he was flying thru the field with a speed nobody could understand and finished finally 7&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; in this race what means it was 3 points to short. This major event is a begin of the season for many sailors and for the A-class in Europe it is the first big event&amp;nbsp;where people can see if their winter training helped them and where the new gadgets are shown. At the moment there&amp;nbsp;are 66&amp;nbsp;competitors registered which is a good achievement and probably it will go above 70 because not&amp;nbsp;everybody&amp;nbsp;is on that list.&amp;nbsp;Some big names are competing like Andrew Landenberger, defending&amp;nbsp;2010 winner&amp;nbsp;Bob Baier, Sjoerd Hoekstra and some strong Italians. With light wind conditions ( around 3bft&amp;nbsp;) they sailed&amp;nbsp;4 races on the weekend. Sjoerd Hoekstra was sailing the Vision for the first time in competition and for the 3rd time ever and did it well. We did understand that he had serious trouble with his cunningham which was jamming&amp;nbsp;, so optimal sailing was not possible. Even with this problem he did performed well and leaves a good impression behind of the potential the Vision has. mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;We did test sail the boat in 5 to 18 knots and the boat is very stiff and absolute comfortable sailing downwind and fast. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'; font-size: x-small;"&gt;The last months we did a major job on designing, modelling and simulations runs with a vision on how we could improve the performance of the A-class catamaran.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"&gt;We decided to build a complete new production line to produce the boat according the latest building standard and the result is a boat that feels ridged and extremly stiff what resulted in a comfortable feeling of control during sailing.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"&gt;Our design goals where:&lt;br /&gt;- The vision to design a boat which could be used by the recreational sailor to have fun and comfortable sailing. &lt;br /&gt;- The vision to design a boat for the competition sailor to sail on a high level. &lt;br /&gt;- The vision to make a boat "ready to race from the box".&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; This would be the 4th Global Challenge after 2007 The Netherlands, 2008 Great-Britain , 2009 United-States and can be called the 1st official Worldchampionship after the recognition by ISAF of the Formula 16 class.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;We all did know that the Global Challenge&amp;nbsp;are the Worldchampionships for the F16 but now there is a possiblity to get sailors from other ISAF classes into the class and that they do not facing the change of being banned from that other class. The boat will be of a very high standard because the way of building is the best possible way to build light and strong hulls.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;Formula 16 :&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;The formula 16 aquaRaptor was the first in line which we start building begin 2010, in follow up of the build of the A-class we have made the choice to start building our aquaRaptor the same way. This ofcourse requires some adjustment on the moulds and way of fabrication but it will finally result in a very high tech build F16 which will be a bench mark in the class.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2011 Events:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;In 2011 we have 2 major events where we will participate at least and this is the A-class Worlds in Denmark and the F16 Worlds in France ( if it will go on ) . There are also some other events around Europe but this will be done at a later to be determined schedule. The weather predictions are not good at the moment with winds into the 30 knots and a lot of rain.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;We will make the final call Saterday if we go or not. There was a 24 boat fleet with 2 F16 Blades and 5 A-cats being part of the fleet. The wind was in the range from 10 to 17 knots from the North East which means a very shifty wind at the gate and some guesing which side was good. On Friday there are 4 races sailed in 18 to 24 knots and on Saterday and Sunday evn more wind far in the 20's. The right was the way to go on the first beat and Riccardo was first at the mark. The Viper pro ‘s where following him and passed him during the downwind leg. In the mean time the wind was building and the single handers had no change at all anymore because the wind was increasing to 17/18 knots and there where spots where it reached the 20knts. It was a 2 hander wind and the same is expected today.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;After the first race the Vipers where in front with Federico &amp;amp; Luca following close on the aquaRaptor but they missed the gate so they had a DNF in race 1. They did well in race 2 and 3 with a 7 and 7 just behing the Viper pro's.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The new aquaRaptor is performing well but you see that there is sailing time on the boats needed to get them quick. I personally found out that I did not sailed enough on the boat so far, there is increasing of the speed going thru the races yesterday and I am getting back the feeling. Let you know more about it later on.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the 2nd and third race the wind was still around the 17 knts and the single handers where work very hard to keep the boats going and where fighting in the back of the field. The special attention needed to go to Geert because he did 2 races as the only real single hander. It was very impressive to see him going up wind with one hand and handle the wind and gusts and even more impressive to see him go with the spinnaker , the pulling up and bringing down with 1 arm is a difficult and I must say &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;GO GEERT GO.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The races for today are scheduled to start at 13.00 again with 3 races to go.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The classification after today ( with modification made after writing errors )&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. The boat was reacting and sailing even better then we expected, due to the very stiff platform all energy generated by the sail was put into motion right away. We are preparing an on the water photo shoot to give a good idea how the boat looks and perform. There was a strong field attending in this championships with Steve Brewin, Glenn Ashby, Scott Anderson and other strong sailors. Steve Brewin , sailing on &lt;b&gt;The Tool&lt;/b&gt; with a Saarberg mast, had a good weekend with a serie of 2 bullits and a second and thirth place.
