Ronde 10 Gemeten 2011

Last Saturday the 24th september the 32 nd Ronde Tien gemeten has been sailed with very light and difficult wind conditions.

Catamaranparts was on the water with 2 Visions and 1 Raptor F16. The 2 Visions where sailed by Piet Saarberg, Nigel Lovett and the Raptor F16 was sailed by Chris Field. For Chris this was his first time ever on a F16 and was looking forward to see how the boat will do.
The briefing was at 10 AM and there was already a possiblity to shorten the race because of the wind conditions and they were right, the race was shorted just before the island Tiengemeten with a gate and this was a good choice.

At 11 AM the start signal was given and off we go with a 70+ boat field. Right after the start it was the best choice to go North and then crossing the lake to the South and stay under the dike. Chris had a good start and was with the Raptor in the middle of the F20's going upwind to the island. Piet on the Vision went earlier to the South under the dike and in the beginning this was not ideal but he managed to sail free and off he went with a big battle with John Moret on his special made M20.
It was a complete up wind beat and a lot of the A-cats and the Raptor were in front of the fleet. At the gate it was Piet in 3th and Chris in 6th place, this was ofcourse very good with a downwind leg to come.

It all went different and more difficult because the wind was dropping further and a lot of wind holes were spread out around the lake.Piet was in the lead and went to the North side close to the finish and this did cost him the victory, the boats on the North side had a little sooner the upcomning Westerly wind and could go full trapeze to the finish and Piet did miss the victory by half a boat length.
Chris was also struggling to get out of the windholes and instead of a downwind beat with the spinaker it was changed into an upwind beat again. Finally Chris did made a 11 th place overall with the Raptor and Piet a 3 th place overall with the Vision.

Overall we can say that you needed some luck today to get a real top finish. The club Hellecat did made again a very good effort with the organisation and we are now already looking forward to next year.

A-class worlds day 1 racing

First day racing finished. It was a challenging day with some material issues, 1 mast broken and some boards. The story told that during race 1 the wind shifted a lot and that it increased above 20 knots for some time. After the rain/storm cloud the weather improved.

The first started race was stopped because of the weather but the 2 races started after that were sailed in moderate and lighter wind condition.

We do see several designs in the top what is interesting.

Practice race A-class Worlds

The previous information was wrong because the tracking devices were noy working well. The practice race has won by Scott Anderson and Landenberger second.Hopefully the rest of the week it will work better.

Next week the A-class worlds in Denmark starts on Sunday with the practice race and on Monday with the actual event. What can be seen as a surprice is the missing of Glenn Ashby ( i couldn't find him on the list anymore ) on the entry list, probably he could not combine the event with the AC were he is working on at the moment.
We are looking forward to see how things will go.
Catamaranparts is having 4 Visions on the water with Chris Field, Sjoerd Hoekstra, Theo van Hilten and Piet Saarberg.

F16 World championships 2011

In the week from 23th – 30th July 2011 the first official F16 Worlds were sailed in France at the sailing club CVB ( Cercle Voile de Bordeaux ) on the lake of Maubuisson .

The organization done by the sailing club and its volunteers was absolute from superb quality , the people in the catering and on the starting vessels need to have a very big dumb up on the achieved result . There was no negative comment from anybody on this and everybody was enjoying the atmosphere.

We arrived with 2 Raptors F16 on Saturday night and did a quick diner after a 10 hour long drive and went to bed straight away. The next morning we were up early to go to the CVB and to assemble the boats. We did found out that most competitors were already arrived and the field of 33 boats was a very good achievement. During assembling the others came into the boat yard and did prepare them self to go for a nice sail despite the showers of rain we had. The wind was good and sailing could be done.

We assembled the 2 boats and they were ready to go for the Monday. For Stephane ,who sailed 1 Raptor in 2 up mode, it was the first time ever on the F16 and he went out early to have a test run and to see if anything needs to be modified. He had found no problems and was happy to have a boat ready to race from the box. On Monday he was not racing because he was part of the organization and this could not combined with racing. Hans was going single handed for the first time this year on the Raptor F16, the A class project took to much time to have any practice possible, and went on the water also early to check the newly build Raptor Mark II and to see if everything was working properly. Also no problems and the event was going to start.

Monday 25 July

The first race day with showers of rain and wind around 14 to 16 knots was a challenging one if you did not had the change to practice with the spin and this resulted in 2 capsizes in race 2 , but after a while the routine started to come back and this resulted in a 25, dnf , 23 . From the beginning on you could see which people who were going for the championship, Darren Bundock ( goes fast even on a wooden pallet ) Jason Waterhouse, Carolijn Brouwer and Taylor Reiss. The difference in boat handling and tactics were from a different level in comparison to the rest of the fleet.

Tuesday 26 July

The weather was improving a bit but still there was rain but not as bad as on the Monday. The races scheduled for the day should be started at 13.00 but because the wind was very shifty there was some delay in the procedure so it actually started around 14.00 , which was also giving the wind to build up and the one up’s had no change at all to beat the sloop rigged boats. Greg Goodall was swapped for this day to cat rigged because of illness of his crew. The request for doing this was send in to the jury and nobody was complaining one this further. Good to see that sailing and having fun goes above the competition in this. Stephane on the Raptor mark I was also going out and did good racing with a 25,19,20 result with no practice at all and on a new boat. He was really surprised on how the boat performed and how easy it sailed downwind. Hans was getting in the mood and had a good day with a 13,10,23 and did beat Greg twice this day with a good battle with Greg.

Jason Waterhouse was best this day with a 1,2,1 and followed by Darren with a 2,1,2.

Wednesday 27 July

Finally the weather was the way it should be, sunny and 27 degrees Celsius, and the wind was probably going to do what it normal does. Easy in the morning and building up during the day as a thermic wind into the 20’s. This would not exactly happing because the land was to could after the bad days but it was building up later that day to around 16 knots. Darren did show how to sail correctly and did not make any mistake with 3 bullets , it was his day. Stephane was increasing his results and was making a lot of improvement on the boat and was getting used to it. He did a 21,18,18 and was in race 2 close to the first 10 but made a tactic error what cost several places but overall he was really having fun. Hans in the morning was doing well because the wind was not to strong so the advantage of the sloop rigged boats was not to big yet and finished 13^th , the wind started to build in race 2 and the sloops were absolute to fast, this was a 23 and 24 in race 2 and 3 for that day.

Thursday 28 July

The sun was shining and the temperature was around 27 C again so it was perfect and the thermic breeze would for sure come in today, and it came in. The first 2 races was sailed in perfect condition from 12 to 16 knots but during the 3th race the wind switched on and it started to blow constant 19 to 20 and gusts into the 20’s . This is for the 1 up’s a challenging adventure with the spin and a few were having troubles, the sloops were really flying fast. Darren also took this day with constant high level sailing . A 2,1,2 was the result and Carolijn also did well with 2 bullets. You could really see that these 2 were the best today in boat handling and tactics. Stephane did it well with a 19,28,27. He told me that his wife never sailed in these strong wind condition before and was pleased to manage this quite easy but she was for here feeling on the edge what she normally does but the boat handled all gusts very well and this made here to go on. Hans was doing average with a 24,17,22 and was more battling to secure his place as first single hander.

Friday 29 July

Last day racing and no wind at all in the beginning, everybody was waiting till around noon and then we went on the water in the hope to get at least one race done this day. The last signal should be not later than 15.00 and around 14.15 it went on . Darren was already crowned as champion and actually he did not needed to sail this last race. The wind started to build and we did a good last race of the event. Stephane was not on the water because of organization issues again and Hans was just defending his position to end as first single hander. With a 19^th in the last race it worked out.

Jason finished first this day and secured his 2^nd place overall.

We can say that this event was one never to forget and up to the next one, only the travel back needs to go better. Our car broke down on Saturday around 12 and this resulted in a long journey back and finally we did arrive home Monday evening late.

Vision wins Dutch A-class Nationals 2011

Dutch A-class Nationals are sailed with challenging and light condition with the last day in moderate winds.
The prediction given about the weather/wind forecast was giving was completely correct with high winds on the Friday and Saterday and light to moderate winds on the Sunday.
The organisation was done by Hellecat and again they deserved a big tumbs up because it was again perfectly done.
Friday 09 july
In the morning a lot of the competitors from outside Holland where already arrived and where preparing the boats for a day hard work on the water because the wind was strong and it looked that it was on the edge. We had 38 competitors on the list but around the half of them where not going out because of the conditions ( constant 18 and gusts far into the 20's ). There where 3 days scheduled and the RC did manage to make 2 races with an increasing wind so the last race was cancelled.
After the first day there was Chris Field and Sjoerd Hoekstra in the lead on equal points with PJ Dwarshuis 3 rd.

Saturday 10 July
On Saturday the wind was moderate and the start was early to have enough races to make the championship valid because the wind would increase during the day to at least 25 knots and bigger gusts ( this was also correct).
The wind was shifty in the beginning and PJ was making the best use of it wind good sailing and a bullet in the first race and Sjoerd on his tail for second and Roeland 3rd. The wind was increasing during race 2 and on race 3 it was again survival mode on the downwind. A big part of the fleet came back on race 3 because of this.

Sunday 11 July
On Sunday we finally had some good weather and wind condition so everybody was on the water and we started with around 10 knots of wind and with 4 races scheduled it would be a good sailing day. The top of the fleet was going fast again and Chris and Sjoerd where actually fighting for the title with smart sailing of Chris he did manage to win race 1 of the day and Sjoerd 3th and Matthias Dietz 2nd.
The 2nd race was also with around 10 knots of wind but decreasing and with that a lot of shifts and wind holes where there what made it difficult. Theo van Hilten did a fantastic starboard start and finished the race in 2nd place behind Sjoerd and in front of Chris ( all of them on a Vision , happy us ).
The wind was dying further and with light conditions race 3 was sailed with again a lot of wind shifts and Roeland was making the best of it with a bullet and Nigel Lovett 2nd and Chris 3rd. Sjoerd had a BFD what forced him to sail the last race in a building wind to 10-12 knots. Perfect conditions.In the last race Chris did what was needed and did win the race but with Sjoerd 2nd and Jaap Straakenbroek 3rd the title was for Sjoerd Hoekstra.

Dutch F16 Nationals posponed

The Dutch F16 Nationals are posponed due to lack of interest and absence of sailors in the period of 4 and 5 june. At the moment we are looking to have the Nationals in September during one of the weekends of the Najaars bokaal.

F16 at 37th Vele di Pasqua

At the last Vele di Pasqua there was a good debut of the VISION but we almost forget that the F16 was also sailing there. The field is not big yet but this will be a matter of time in the backyard of Bimare.

Just like A-class the F16 sailed 6 races with team Di Felice/Farina taking the first place on the F16 Bim.

We did not received the full story but it is also good to see that Luca Gaburri with the Raptor did well and after a slow start on the first day he improved his performance during the event with even winning the last race and this shows the potential of the Raptor.

Vele di pasqua 2011 first information received

Last Easter weekend the 37^th Vele di Pasqua was sailed at the sea in front of Cesenatico with light wind conditions and some days with a choppy sea. After last year debut of the Dutch build DNA it was this year the turn of the other Dutch build A-class VISION at this major A-class event.

The first comments were coming in by some phone contact with the sailors there and the first signals on how the boat is performing is absolutely amazing. We do know that we made a design looking different then other models around at the moment and we had a Vision on how to do things. In the last weekend we and the other sailors have found out that it was not bad at all.

Sjoerd Hoekstra and Piet Saarberg where sailing the first 2 boats. (Sjoerd was sailing on the prototype).

We have not received the full story yet but what we know so far is that Sjoerd did a very good job but was unlucky in race 2 and race 6. In race 2 he did broke the rope connection between the main and the sail so had to return to the beach to fix this and this means that this race was his redraw for the series.

In the last race he was unlucky at the start to hit the pin end mark and needed to make a 360 penalty turn. Going over the starting line in 75^th position he needed to catch up with the rest to make a good result of this race. From the story told he was flying thru the field with a speed nobody could understand and finished finally 7^th in this race what means it was 3 points to short. With Teo Di Battista at first place and Sjoerd 2^nd it was a fantastic debut of the boat and it leaves a great impression behind on the other sailors.

Vele di Pasqua 2011

The coming weekend the 37th Vele di Pasqua will start. This major event is a begin of the season for many sailors and for the A-class in Europe it is the first big event where people can see if their winter training helped them and where the new gadgets are shown. At the moment there are 66 competitors registered which is a good achievement and probably it will go above 70 because not everybody is on that list. Some big names are competing like Andrew Landenberger, defending 2010 winner Bob Baier, Sjoerd Hoekstra and some strong Italians. Catamaranparts is with 2 brand new Visions at the starting line and we are looking forward to see how the boat will perform in this strong field.

WC A-class qualifiers 2011

Last weekend (16-17 April) one of the Dutch A-class WC qualifiers was sailed at Muiderzand. With light wind conditions ( around 3bft ) they sailed 4 races on the weekend. Sjoerd Hoekstra was sailing the Vision for the first time in competition and for the 3rd time ever and did it well. We did understand that he had serious trouble with his cunningham which was jamming , so optimal sailing was not possible. Even with this problem he did performed well and leaves a good impression behind of the potential the Vision has. With not sailing the last race he even managed to get on equal points with Roeland and Pieterjan.

One of the comments of Sjoerd " ....the boat is sailing downwind very easy and is in good balance, a shame that the cunningham jammed but i was upwind faster and downwind i could not set the sail exactly right, next time better but the boat feels good and i am having convidence for the future ...."

The coming Vele di Pasqua will be a next possibilty to get more impressions on the boat with 2 Visions at the starting line.

Some more information about the new A-class Vision design from Piet Saarberg and Hans Klok . We did started the project after looking at the development on the curved dagger boards tested on several boats and we thought that there was room to come with something new based on a other vision.

The basic drawings where made in CAD and translated into a ship design software package to further develop it and to see if our vision was correct on how we could improve boat speed, performance and the sailing possibilities for people who are not racing only but also have just weekend fun with it.

We think that we succeeded in this approach with the Vision.

We did test sail the boat in 5 to 18 knots and the boat is very stiff and absolute comfortable sailing downwind and fast.

Some features you will find on the Vision.

- The bow of the Vision is not designed according the well known “wave piercing “ concept but we used the “CEB “ concept.

- The main beam is completely integrated in the hull to improve stiffness.

- The rear beam is raised to prevent “ beam slap “ which gives less resistance.

- The Vision is standard equipped with full carbon curved dagger boards and full carbon rudders with a carbon trailing edge to prevent breakage of the back part.

- The Vision has 2 options on trampolines. 1 complete integrated in the deck and one with a string to pull the trampoline tide.

- The Vision is standard delivered with the high quality Saarberg carbon mast.

- The Vision is foam, carbon pre-preg build, which proved to be very stiff and light.

- The last vision we had was to make a complete package what is ready to race from the box, using parts like our existing rudders

A-class VISION

The last months we did a major job on designing, modelling and simulations runs with a vision on how we could improve the performance of the A-class catamaran.
We decided to build a complete new production line to produce the boat according the latest building standard and the result is a boat that feels ridged and extremly stiff what resulted in a comfortable feeling of control during sailing.

Our design goals where:
- The vision to design a boat which could be used by the recreational sailor to have fun and comfortable sailing.
- The vision to design a boat for the competition sailor to sail on a high level.
- The vision to make a boat "ready to race from the box".

Catamaranparts Raptor F16 mark II

This year we will launch the mark II of the Raptor F16 build by Catamaranparts. After 1,5 year of testing and lollecting information about the sailing capacities of the boat we made the descision to update the platform to a next level. The launch of the Raptor F16 mark II will be at the beginning of the season.

We did made some updates on the boat to improve the overall looks and we did made some updates to improve the speed.

We will inform you later on the exact details.

Dutch A-class Nat's 2011

The Dutch A-class Nationals will be sailed at Hellecat on 8,9 and 10 July 2011. It is good to see that the class is still going on and the rumours are that there will be a lot of sailors from different type of countries to do the event. The goal is to get 60 boats + at the starting line, this would be a major achievement.

Carbon masts perform well at Aus A-cat Nationals

The carbon mast from Saarberg did perform well at the latest A-class Nationals in Australia. We do know that Glenn Ashby is from another level and did win the championships with 6 bullets and a 8th ( he jumped overboard leading the fleet ). Interesting to see is that in place 2 , 3 and 4 a Saarberg mast was in the top of the fleet, we call this a good achievement.

2nd F16 Dutch Nationals 4-5 June 2011

We are pleased to announce that the 2nd Dutch Nationals will be sailed at Hellecat on the 4-5 June 2011. The location is perfect to sail with an outstanding clubhouse and everything around it.
We thank Hellecat to be the host for this event. The NOR will be put on the Dutch F16 class blog and the F16 forum ( Dutch part ) soon.

F16 Worlds event date changed

The F16 Worlds in France has been re-scheduled, the event is moved with 1 week forward . It will be sailed from 23-30 July. This new dates will fit better in a lot of school holidays so it will attract more sailors.

Open Dutch F16 Nationals 2011

In 2011 there will be the 2nd Dutch F16 Nationals. The place is going to be sailing club Hellecat in Hellevoetsluis. The final dates are now under discussion with the club but we have some ideas what it could be. The proposed dates are the weekend of 28th-29th May or 4th-5th June, this is NOT final yet but it will be in that time frame to fit it in the rest of the sailing events.

Chris Field enter F16 on Raptor

Well known UK A-class sailor Chris Field will enter the F16 on the aquaRaptor build by Catamaranparts. Chris is one of Europe's top A-class sailors who is everytime in the top of the ranking and with a UK, Dutch and Swiss National A-class title in 2010 he is going for the highest rank in F16 at the Worlds in France in 2011.
We are very pleased to have Chris onboard the aquaRaptor and he can help to increase the speed of the boat and will also help with tips and tricks.

The next main event for the F16 will be held in France from 16 till 23 July 2011. This would be the 4th Global Challenge after 2007 The Netherlands, 2008 Great-Britain , 2009 United-States and can be called the 1st official Worldchampionship after the recognition by ISAF of the Formula 16 class.
We all did know that the Global Challenge are the Worldchampionships for the F16 but now there is a possiblity to get sailors from other ISAF classes into the class and that they do not facing the change of being banned from that other class. This could mean that this next Global Challenge would be of a very high level.

The season 2011 is over and maybe some little sailing and practice in November ( the club is open till end November ) but that will be it for 2010, so it is good to look forward to 2011.

What are we planning to do.

A-class:
We have start building the new A-class for 2011 so this will be a major step forward and ofcourse we are planning to do some test runs before it will be launched in 2011. The boat will be of a very high standard because the way of building is the best possible way to build light and strong hulls.

Formula 16 :
The formula 16 aquaRaptor was the first in line which we start building begin 2010, in follow up of the build of the A-class we have made the choice to start building our aquaRaptor the same way. This ofcourse requires some adjustment on the moulds and way of fabrication but it will finally result in a very high tech build F16 which will be a bench mark in the class.

2011 Events:
In 2011 we have 2 major events where we will participate at least and this is the A-class Worlds in Denmark and the F16 Worlds in France ( if it will go on ) . There are also some other events around Europe but this will be done at a later to be determined schedule. Our homebase will be Hellecat at Hellevoetsluis where we do training and give some advise when it is needed.

The October bokaal 2010 has finished with a few boats sailing the last Sunday. The wind predictions was very bad but was to do what we understand from the stories. It was rough but a few boats did made the desicision to do the final races.

Last weekend October bokaal

Coming Sunday 24th October the last races will be sailed in the October bokaal. The weather predictions are not good at the moment with winds into the 30 knots and a lot of rain.
We will make the final call Saterday if we go or not. The weekend later is a next change to get on the water with some practice racing.

In the mean time we keep on going with the build of the new A-class mould which is going according schedule.

October bokaal 17-10-2010

Last Sunday 17th October there was the 3rd weekend of the October bokaal in perfect conditions. There was a 24 boat fleet with 2 F16 Blades and 5 A-cats being part of the fleet. The wind was in the range from 10 to 17 knots from the North East which means a very shifty wind at the gate and some guesing which side was good. The 1st race some boats were late at the start ( incl me ) so that race was over, the next races where good and when in race 3 and 4 the wind dropped the spi boats where getting more trouble to fly the spin better so the races where more equal against the no spi boats.
It was a perfect sailing Sunday and hopefully next sunday the last of the season will also be the same.

October Bokaal at Hellecat 2011

The October Bokaal is already 2 weekends underway with some serious wind conditions in the first weekend and better condition in the 2nd weekend. The coming weekend will be the 3rd race day sailed on Sunday with some lighter conditions predicted. We from Catamaranparts are going to sail this weekend also because it could be one of the last this season. Why this info. We will there to sail but also to answer questions about the development of the latest status of the new A-class design and the possiblities available.

First win aquaRaptor F16 in open Italian event

In the weekend of 12/13 September the first win on an aquaRaptor sailed by Luca Bertani has been a very good step forward. Luca did win the event on elapsed time and rating against several types of boats.
We congratulate Luca with this outstanding result.

A-class Dutch Nationals 2010

From 27 to 29 August the Dutch A-class Nationals are sailed in rough conditions. On Friday there are 4 races sailed in 18 to 24 knots and on Saterday and Sunday evn more wind far in the 20's. Chris Field (DNA ) , Bob Baier (Nikita ) and Sjoerd Hoekstra (Tool ) did very well with filling the top 3 places. All where sailing with curved boards, so it looks this is the way to go in the future in strong winds.

First day at Lake Como F16 Euro Challenge

Report after the first day.

There was a light start of the day with not much wind and during the start the wind was still building and it was shown that you needed to know how it works here because Riccardo on the Blade went to the right and the rest of the fleet went to the left. The right was the way to go on the first beat and Riccardo was first at the mark. The Viper pro ‘s where following him and passed him during the downwind leg. In the mean time the wind was building and the single handers had no change at all anymore because the wind was increasing to 17/18 knots and there where spots where it reached the 20knts. It was a 2 hander wind and the same is expected today.

After the first race the Vipers where in front with Federico & Luca following close on the aquaRaptor but they missed the gate so they had a DNF in race 1. They did well in race 2 and 3 with a 7 and 7 just behing the Viper pro's.

The new aquaRaptor is performing well but you see that there is sailing time on the boats needed to get them quick. I personally found out that I did not sailed enough on the boat so far, there is increasing of the speed going thru the races yesterday and I am getting back the feeling. Let you know more about it later on.

In the 2nd and third race the wind was still around the 17 knts and the single handers where work very hard to keep the boats going and where fighting in the back of the field. The special attention needed to go to Geert because he did 2 races as the only real single hander. It was very impressive to see him going up wind with one hand and handle the wind and gusts and even more impressive to see him go with the spinnaker , the pulling up and bringing down with 1 arm is a difficult and I must say

GO GEERT GO.

The races for today are scheduled to start at 13.00 again with 3 races to go.

First sail aquaRaptor F16 prototype

On 27th March the new aquaRaptor F16 did it's first test sail and it was a great success. The boat was reacting and sailing even better then we expected, due to the very stiff platform all energy generated by the sail was put into motion right away. The newly designed hull was doing where it was designed for.

On 26 March the aquaRAPTOR F16 will have the first sail in public. We are preparing an on the water photo shoot to give a good idea how the boat looks and perform. We will also publish some photo,s of this.

Brewin on The TOOL wins NSW state title

In the weekend 27-28 february the NSW state titles in Australia are being sailed in different conditions from 5 knots to 24 knots. There was a strong field attending in this championships with Steve Brewin, Glenn Ashby, Scott Anderson and other strong sailors. Steve Brewin , sailing on The Tool with a Saarberg mast, had a good weekend with a serie of 2 bullits and a second and thirth place. This resulted in the first place with 7 points and Glenn finished second with 14 points.
Interesting to see was that the numbers 1,2 and 3 where sailing with straight boards and leave the banana boards home.
The weekend of 6 to 8 March the Victorian State Titles A-class are being sailed so stay tuned for more news.
